Virgin Media 100 Day Game Project winners celebrate launch of new game release

Virgin Media today announced that the 100 Day Game project has come to a close, as the winning team of young games developers launch their new free mobile game, ‘Super-Fluid’, on the two biggest smartphone app stores. The new game will be available across a range of Android and iOS devices, and is available to download for free now from iTunes and Google Play

As part of Virgin Media’s ongoing commitment to support emerging talent, the 100 Day Game Project was set-up to help undiscovered developers get their first break in the gaming industry.

The four strong team, selected to take part in the project have spent the past 100 days working with some of the biggest names in the games industry to make their concept of ‘Super-Fluid’ a reality. The team, Surface Tension Studios, have only recently graduated from the University of Essex and are thrilled to be launching the game after having showcased it to gaming fans from all over Europe at the Eurogamer Expo in September.

The colourful puzzle based game ‘Super-Fluid’ has been developed to work across Android and iOS devices and uses tilt-based controls for navigation through the levels as the character changes into three different states - solid, liquid and gas. The game’s narrative follows ‘Super-Fluid’s’ attempts to escape from its creators ‘Dynamisplice’, facing a variety of puzzles and challenges to navigate through each level, and get past enemies, including the Diabolical Jellies and Stalagbites.

Dave Pearson, Surface Tension Studios said: “We never expected to get such a positive reaction from everyone at Eurogamer. People really seemed to love the game and witnessing the reaction from gamers first hand justified all the work and effort we’ve put into it.”

“We’ve had a fantastic time and would like to thank Virgin Media for giving us this amazing opportunity. We’ve always wanted to work in the games industry and now thanks to this competition it’s really happening. We’re so proud of what we’ve achieved and we’d like to continue developing the game, adding new levels and enemies in future.”

As part of the 100 Day Game Project Virgin Media teamed up with Relentless Studios to ensure Surface Tension Studios can continue doing what they love as they start a paid internship in their Mobile studio in November.

Andrew Eades, CEO of Relentless Software said: “I was very impressed by the calibre of talent in the competition, but it was the concept of Super-Fluid in particular that wowed the judges. Relentless is looking forward to welcoming the team into our new Mobile studio specialising in mobile content built with Unity. The difficulty of building and launching a game is often underestimated and the team have shown that they are capable of delivering on an incredibly short timescale. Congratulations are due to all of them.”

Luke Southern, head of sponsorship at Virgin Media said: “When we launched this project, we knew we were setting a tough task, but the team have come up with the goods and received a fantastic reception from the visitors to the Virgin Media stand during the Eurogamer Expo. Surface Tension Studio’s efforts throughout the project has been first class, the game looks great and we’re confident that the team will go on to enjoy even more success and fantastic careers in the games industry.”
