Eni Launches its Brand in the Belgian Natural Gas and Power Market

Eni currently serves a total of 600,000 Belgian customers, and aims to reach 1 million by 2016, approximately 12% of the retail market, with innovative products and services, by making the energy sector and energy prices more transparent and easier to understand for Belgian consumers.

Brussels, – Eni, as of 1 November, will sell natural gas and power through the Eni brand to retail and business clients in the Belgian market, with the target to become one of the largest retail operators in the country and further consolidate its leadership position in the business market segment.

Since the acquisition of Distrigas in 2008, Eni has been the largest supplier for business clients in the Belgian gas market. At the beginning of 2012, Eni acquired Nuon Belgium, which is active in both the retail and the business market segment. These acquisitions represent Eni’s largest investment in the sale of gas and power outside its home market in Italy to date.

In 2011, Nuon Belgium and Distrigas delivered a strong performance in the market with total gas sales of 3,246 GWh and total power sales of 4,680 GWh to Nuon’s customers and 141,500 GWh of total gas sales to Distrigas’ customers.

As of 1 November, Nuon Belgium and Distrigas will merge under the Eni brand, aiming to consolidate Eni’s leadership in the Belgian business market, and to increase its activities in the retail and small to midsized enterprises sectors.
