WEBWIRE

The International Programs at San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine join the global hospice and palliative care community in celebrating World Hospice & Palliative Care Day on October 13, 2012.  World Hospice and Palliative Care Day is a unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world. This year’s theme is “Living to the end: palliative care for an aging population”.

This World Hospice Day the International Programs is pleased to highlight a variety of their groundbreaking palliative care initiatives, including providing consultations, professional education and technical assistance to countries, healthcare systems and organizations across the globe, as a way to increase awareness and leadership in the fields of hospice and palliative care.

Additionally, this month the International Programs is also celebrating the continuation of its successful International Palliative Care Leadership Development Initiative (LDI). With the goal of growing global leaders in the field of palliative medicine, LDI features 22 doctors from low and moderate resource countries who participate in a variety of leadership activities, both in their home-countries and during week-long visits to San Diego. The second group of leaders will be visiting San Diego from October 21-26, 2012. The physician leaders will share what they have learned and accomplished during the LDI course as well as outlining their future goals and plans.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our recent LDI cohort,” said Frank Ferris, MD, FAAHPM, FAACE, Director of International Programs. “Their level of professionalism and dedication for helping those who need the advanced care of Palliative Medicine is inspiring. They are truly advancing Palliative Care globally.”
