In September, the Chicago Sun-Times published a report about new legislation targeting radon in Illinois.  The Illinois General Assembly had recently passed two bills meant to protect Illinois residents from exposure to radon gas.

One bill requires licensed daycare centers, daycare homes, and group daycare homes to test their property for radon a minimum of once every three years.  The other bill requires new residential construction to have passive radon resistant construction.  Both bills are set to go into effect in 2013.

One of the leading indoor air quality (IAQ) test kit manufacturers, IAQ Index, has been watching this legislation closely.  IAQ Index provides home test kits for a number of indoor pollutants, including radon.  Bruce Jacobs, CIH, President of IAQ Index, stated, “Radon is a real risk for families and we are glad to see the Illinois General Assembly take these proactive approaches to testing for radon and reducing people’s exposure to this radioactive gas.  Although these bills aren’t set to go into effect until 2013, for the months of October and November of this year, IAQ Index is providing a free radon test kit and evaluation for anyone who purchases the IAQ Index Basic Kit.  The IAQ Index Basic Kit includes the evaluation of potentially harmful levels of CO, CO2, VOCs, and mold commonly found in homes, offices and schools.”

Both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Surgeon General recommend testing all homes below the third floor for radon.  Radon can also be a threat in any type of building.  Schools, businesses and virtually any enclosed environment may be exposing building occupants to radon.

The free IAQ Index radon test kit offer is a $50 value and this limited time offer is for the months of October and November.  To take advantage of this special opportunity, order the IAQ Index Basic Kit at http://www.IAQIndex.com and receive a free radon test kit.

About IAQ Index
IAQ Index was developed by a Certified Industrial Hygienist with decades of experience dealing with indoor air quality issues.  IAQ Index was developed as a health-based, easy-to-understand, air quality index that is calculated from data generated for various parameters commonly measured during IAQ surveys.  The approach is similar to the EPA’s Air Quality Index that has been used historically to communicate the risks posed by common pollutants in the ambient air.
