The ASQ (Airports Service Quality) Awards has recently crowned Keflavik International Airport (KEF) in Iceland as the ‘Best Airport in Europe 2011’.

The Iceland airport was crowned number one in the catergory ‘best airport for 2 million passengers or less’. KEF actually came out on top in terms of service, but since it was placed in the smaller airports category, was not able to come out on top overall.

This prestigious titled comes after participants of an extensive airport service survey, conducted by Airports Council International (ACI), voted the airport as top of its category. The ACI survey is published quarterly and annually with 186 major airports worldwide taking part, 54 of which are in Europe. Survey participants answer a number of questions about the quality of more than 36 service factors.

All of the airports participating in the survey were judged on aspects customer satisfaction, helpfulness and courtesy of staff, ease of flight connections, cleanliness, and check-in times. In 2009, KEF was ranked the best airport in Europe and came in second in the same category for 2010. The airport was also ranked third in terms of best airports in the world in 2004 to a group of airports with less than five million passengers a year.

Additionally, Business and Route Development Manager at Isavia, the company operating Keflavik International Airport, Gudny Johannsdottir, will be discussing future airline routes and business incentives at KEF during the upcoming World Route Development Strategy Summit 2012 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Isavia is looking to expand the airport’s network with new routes and customers who contribute to passenger growth. In order to achieve this, the company offers customers incentives including discounts on landing and passenger charges for new routes.

KEF has released the latest edition of its trade magazine, Airmail, which features up-to-date information on its business facilities. Click here to view it online.
