4 July 2006, Wärtsilä and one of Finland’s all-time top golfers Riikka Hakkarainen have agreed on co-operation. The newly signed sponsor agreement covers seasons 2006 and 2007.

The 29-year-old Riikka Hakkarainen turned professional in 1997. Ms Hakkarainen is currently playing on the Ladies European Tour (LET) which consists of 20 tournaments in 16 countries. Ms Hakkarainen has started the season extremely well by winning the Tenerife Ladies Open.

“We are happy to support Riikka Hakkarainen in reaching the absolute top in ladies’ golf – the goal is already extremely near,” says Wärtsilä’s VP, Marketing Communications & Branding, Mikael Simelius. “Ms Hakkarainen fits perfectly with our set of values. A complete dedication to what one does is the only way to reach outstanding results,” Mikael Simelius continues.

“It is great to have Wärtsilä as my sponsor. We share a common view on what is needed in order to succeed. If you are striving to reach the top, you need to be enthusiastic and totally devoted to what you do. This goes for both sport and business,” comments Riikka Hakkarainen on her new sponsorship agreement.

The beginning of the season has been a success for Riikka Hakkarainen. The next competition takes place in mid-July in Hungary. The Ladies European Tour visits also Finland in early September when the LET golfers compete at the Helsinki Golf Club.
