A Greater Manchester company is lending its support and eco knowledge to a government scheme which aims to help people make their home more environmentally friendly.

Discrete Heat, based in Atherton, specialises in products which make buildings more efficient, including the ThermaSkirt, a revolutionary item which transmits heat around a room using skirting boards rather than radiators.

According to the company ThermaSkirt is 13 per cent more energy efficient than normal radiators, and when combined with the right source of heat, can be up to a quarter more eco friendly.

When the government’s Green Deal Scheme launches in October the firm expects to see a boosted demand for its eco products, and is working with two approved Green Deal providers ahead of the launch.

Managing director of Discrete Heat Martin Wadsworth said: “ThermaSkirt is appealing to people who want to cut their greenhouse gas emissions, save money and also have a eco heating system which doesn’t intrude into their homes.”

As well as being more energy efficient ThermaSkirts are the slimmest product on the market, ensuring discreet energy savings, and they are available in a variety of colours and finishes, including oak.

Mr Wadsworth further explained the benefits, saying: “Solar and other green heating systems work better at lower temperatures. When the temperature of the water in the heating system is lower, you have to increase the size of the radiator to compensate. That normally means installing even bigger radiators, in some cases up to twice the size, or underfloor heating. The disruption and cost associated with that makes it not practical. ThermaSkirt is a much more cost effective solution.”
