A voluntary recall of specific Purina feed products has been initiated by Land O’Lakes Purina Feed LLC due to elevated levels of Vitamin D.

Although no customer complaints have been recorded, the products are being recalled as a precaution due to analytical test results indicating a potential for elevated Vitamin D levels.

The affected products are found in animal and fish food including WellSolve, Game Fish Chow, Catfish, Catfish Chow, and Minnow Chow.

Elevated levels of Vitamin D could be toxic and result in side effects such as lack of eating, weight loss, nausea, and possible joint stiffness.   Exposure to elevated levels of Vitamin D could also cause death if animals and fish are fed the affected food for an extended period of time.

“EMSL Analytical offers vitamin testing for companies and consumers who want to know the vitamin D levels in their food or supplements,” states Shannon Kauffman, Food Chemistry Lab Manager. “We provide FDA-compliant vitamin testing for nutritional labels, and RDI and DV percentages can be provided when applicable.”
