For over 5 years, IAQ Radio has been providing a venue for professionals dealing with indoor air quality (IAQ) issues a place to discuss industry trends, new developments and to help educate consumers.

Last Friday, Bruce Jacobs, MHS, CIH, was asked to be the guest for the weekly installment of the online broadcast.  Mr. Jacobs was asked to share his expertise on indoor air quality, industrial hygiene, and environmental issues on the popular internet talk show.

Mr. Jacobs is the founder of Industrial Hygiene Consulting, Inc. (previously operating as Jacobs Environmental, Inc.) which was founded in 1997. He has accumulated over 38 years of experience in the environmental and health & safety profession.  Mr. Jacobs has experience as a chemist, toxicologist, industrial hygienist, and environmental manager. He has worked with federal, state, and local governments; construction companies, large and small engineering firms, tunneling contractors, chemical companies, pharmaceutical and flavor companies, healthcare facilities, schools and universities, manufacturing facilities, heavy industry, land developers, home builders, commercial contractors, legal firms and individual homeowners.

Of special interest to the IAQ Radio listeners was Mr. Jacobs’ most recent endeavor, IAQ Index.  IAQ Index was developed to offer consumers a series of easy to use IAQ test kits that allow people to efficiently and affordably test their indoor environments for a number of common IAQ contaminants.  “It was a pleasure and an honor to discuss my experiences and how they were instrumental in developing the test kits and reporting mechanisms for IAQ Index,” reported Mr. Jacobs.  “Problems with mold, formaldehyde, radon, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are all too common today and we hope the listeners learned how IAQ Index’s test kits can help determine if, and when, there is a problem.”

About IAQ Index
IAQ Index was developed by a Certified Industrial Hygienist with decades of experience dealing with indoor air quality issues.  IAQ Index was developed as a health-based, easy-to-understand, air quality index that is calculated from data generated for various parameters commonly measured during IAQ surveys.  The approach is similar to the EPA’s Air Quality Index that has been used historically to communicate the risks posed by common pollutants in the ambient air.
