Phoenix indie-folk outfit Late Reader has released a track from their upcoming debut EP, due out this fall.

The song, L. River is equal parts haunting and melodic, embracing the pair’s preference for stripped-down bedroom style recording and analog white noise. It’s up for a free download on Late Reader’s Bandcamp page.

The band was founded by Ben Norris, singer and guitarist for Phoenix punk veterans Said Gun. Norris added Rick Pellicciaro to the mix soon after to round out the sound with bass, vocals and some sparse rhythms.

While the duo has been playing out around Phoenix for more than a year, they’ve held off on releasing anything seriously up until now.

“We didn’t want to get together for two months, releases 12 songs, and dump our stuff down everybody’s throat,” Norris said. “We’ve been having a lot of fun playing these tiny little shows, seeing some great bands and not even thinking about recording.”

The self-titled EP is due out this fall.
