TZ Shovels Enter SA Market

WEBWIRE

Exxaro Resources, one of the leading coal and resource mining companies in Southern Africa, has ordered two WK-35 rope shovels from Taiyuan Heavy Industry (TZ) (www.tyhi.com.cn) in Taiyuan, China. These shovels, which will have either 35 m³ rock dippers, or 43 m³ coal dippers, are the first TZ shovels to be delivered in Africa. They will be operating at the Grootegeluk Coal Mine, near Lephalale, within 10 months of order placement, an unbelievable delivery time considering each shovel weighs over 1000 tons.

These shovels have a dumping radius of 20,9m, and a lifting force of 2150kN. Productivity of over 4000m³/hour is regularly achieved from existing operating shovels in China. Apart from the latest electrical and hydraulic systems, TZ offers a world-wide on-line diagnostic system. Three Chinese specialists will be based at the mine for at least 2 years, to ensure efficient operation of the shovels.

“After visiting their modern factory in China, as well as some of their major customers, we were impressed with the technical strides taken by TZ in the last few years. After extensive analysis we decided that TZ shovels offered significantly lower operating costs over the life of the shovel,” said Francois van Niekerk, Manager Mobile Equipment and Technology for Exxaro.

Van Reenen Steel, TZ’s agents for Africa, will handle spares distribution to the mine. “We are really excited about this order,” said John van Reenen, MD of VR Steel. “We introduced TZ to the Southern African market a year ago, since they offer a very economical solution at attractive commercial terms. To receive an order so quickly is testament to their excellence, especially from a mining company as highly regarded as Exxaro.”
