BettingTips101 recently released its 2012 Preakness Stakes preview for the upcoming thoroughbred race on May 19th. After successfully picking the Kentucky Derby winner (I’ll Have Another), the experts in the sports department look to repeat the feat at the Preakness by taking a closer look at three contenders.

Speaking of repeats, I’ll Have Another highlights one of the three picks that the writers have made for the Preakness Stakes. Currently, the horse is on a winning streak and still looks to be more than rested for another race just two weeks after winning the Kentucky Derby.

Two other horses have been picked as possible long shot winners in this year’s race. They are not a betting favorite according to Vegas (like I’ll Have Another), but they both have a legitimate shot to emerge from the pack and win. One of the horse had a solid showing in the Kentucky Derby, while the other took the race off to rest and prepare for the Preakness Stakes.

The preview spends a lot of time on I’ll Have Another, since a win here will mean that he is just a Belmont win away from the Triple Crown.  That would be huge for the popularity of the sport, since most casual fans only care about seeing a Triple Crown winner. The last Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing was Affirmed back in 1978.

The oddsmakers have made I’ll Have Another and Bodemeister (who was in the lead for the majority of the race) the favorites heading into Saturday. The field has a strong blend of Kentucky Derby horses and ones that are well rested after skipping Churchill Downs.
