National Prosthodontics Awareness Week helps raise awareness of proper oral health

WEBWIRE

National Prosthodontics Awareness Week is in full swing in the US and has highlighted the importance of keeping to a great oral health routine to people in the UK. Until April 28th, oral health professionals across the US will be helping inform the public about how to properly care for their teeth and dentures, and will be offering specialist advice to those with missing teeth.

Events planned for the week include health screenings, lectures and community service outreach.

The awareness week is being run with the assistance of the American College of Prosthodontists and commenting on the event, the group pointed out that some 178 million people in the US are missing at least one tooth.

The British Association of Clinical Dental Technology (BACDT) and Denture Professionals are in full support of boosting public awareness of proper oral health and helping people to understand the potentially harmful impact of not paying the right attention to their teeth.

Chief executive of the BACDT Richard Daniels noted: “If people in the UK want to avoid a similar fate to their friends across the pond, they need to give the proper attention to their teeth and mouth. Regular brushing is essential, and flossing and mouthwash use can help to remove any leftover bits or bacteria, leaving people with a healthy and fresh feeling mouth.”

He pointed out that Denture Professionals and BACDT are involved with National Smile Month, which is scheduled between May and June 20th this year - and with research from the University of Glasgow recently suggesting that many people are unaware of just how sugary their breakfast food and drink choices are, those wondering how to choose less sugar-laden options could find this event useful.

www.dentureprofessionals.org.uk lists Clinical Dental Technicians who are members of the BACDT and are registered with the General Dental Council. It also provides information on the different types of dentures that are available and the products which are used for making and cleaning dentures.
