Top communications service providers around the world roll out on-demand services based on leading open platforms

SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, Denver – June 21, 2006 – Broadbus Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of technology solutions for Television on Demand (TOD®), and TANDBERG Television (TAT.OL) today announced that their integrated solution for video-on-demand and advanced on-demand services has been successfully deployed in more than 30 markets worldwide. The combined solution is made possible by the open architecture of the TANDBERG Television OpenStream® Digital Services Platform and Broadbus B-1™ Video Server.

Operators of all sizes have turned to Broadbus and TANDBERG Television to launch on-demand services, including Adelphia, Charter Communications, Comcast, Rogers Cable, Time Warner Cable and others.

“When choosing a VOD solution, we closely evaluated many vendors to determine who could best deliver on cost of ownership, speed of deployment and ability to scale,” said Mike MacGibbon, director of engineering for Time Warner Cable Waco Division. “Broadbus and TANDBERG Television delivered in each category and had our entire system transitioned from the legacy solution in just 30 days.”

“The market for the delivery of on-demand services is experiencing tremendous growth as a result of the proliferation of content and the expanding technological capabilities being offered by companies like TANDBERG Television and Broadbus,” said Jeff Heynen, Infonetics. “As more operators continue to deploy open solutions that enhance the subscriber experience with greater network efficiencies and lower associated costs, we expect the uptake in on-demand services to continue climbing.”

Together, Broadbus and TANDBERG Television offer operators of all sizes an open, scalable solution that delivers unmatched performance for advanced video services, including video-on-demand (VOD), networked digital video recording (nDVR), time-shifted television and on-demand advertising. Due to the open nature of the products and the companies’ extensive experience with leading communications service providers, customers can rapidly deploy the combined solution and easily migrate from legacy systems.

“Broadbus and TANDBERG Television are at the forefront of on-demand video services and our combined success with some of the world’s leading operators is a testament to the power of the open solution that we bring to market,” said Tom Kennedy, senior director of marketing for Broadbus.

The TANDBERG Television OpenStream platform allows cable operators to easily deploy on-demand services using VOD servers, applications, billing systems and other system components of their choice. OpenStream’s unique, open architecture extends the cable head-end beyond VOD to support television’s next generation of interactive services. The platform currently delivers on-demand streams to more than 60 US markets reaching over 15 million digital subscribers and is currently being deployed by a major European cable operator. Top five US operators who have commercially deployed the OpenStream platform include Comcast, Charter Communications, Time Warner Cable and Adelphia. OpenStream was also selected as the platform of choice for the small to mid size market by National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC), which represents over 1,000 independent cable operators serving more than 14 million subscribers nationwide.

The Broadbus B-1 Video Server is the only 100% solid-state, carrier-class solution for the delivery of on-demand video services. The platform’s compact, switch-based architecture completely eliminates the use of mechanical hard drives for video streaming and ingest, instead leveraging the intelligent management of massive amounts of random-access memory. The result is unparalleled performance, reliability, scalability for VOD and advanced on-demand services at less than one-tenth the footprint and one-eighth the power requirements of traditional systems.

“The on-demand solutions provided by TANDBERG Television and Broadbus have enabled operators to quickly and confidently deploy advanced video services,” said Braxton Jarratt, senior vice president for marketing and business development, TANDBERG Television, Inc. “Clearly the open nature of the combined platform has provided the extensibility needed to scale systems as consumer demand increases.”

Broadbus and TANDBERG Television are demonstrating their on-demand platforms at the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Cable-Tex Expo conference. Visit booth 270 for Broadbus and booth 462 for TANDBERG Television.
