SAN DIEGO, CA – During 2012 National Volunteer Week (April 15-21), San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine recognizes its 700+ volunteers who support all areas of the organization, including working directly with patients, providing key administrative duties and filling the needs of specialty programs, such as Made with Memories and Haircuts@Home. These dedicated volunteers provided over 89,500 hours of service and saved the nonprofit organization $1.9 million last year.

“Each volunteer is unique but all our volunteers have one thing in common – a heart of volunteer service,” said Kim Heinrichs, Executive Director of Volunteer Resources at San Diego Hospice. “While we celebrate these inspiring individuals every day, during National Volunteer Week we take an extra moment to recognize their efforts.”

As the county’s oldest and largest nonprofit hospice and palliative care provider, San Diego Hospice relies on charitable contributions and volunteerism to carry out its mission.

“A day does not go by without me being thankful to our dedicated group of more than 750 volunteers – those who sit with patients, provide administrative support, run errands, and our volunteer Board of Directors – for their gifts of time, talent, and treasure,” said Kathleen Pacurar, President and CEO of San Diego Hospice.

National Volunteer Week honors volunteers who, through their collective power, time and contributions, make a positive difference in communities across the globe. If you have a desire to make a difference, San Diego Hospice is the right place for you to volunteer!
