Tesco was named Online Retailer of the Year, Grocer of the Year and Britain’s Favourite Supermarket last night at the Grocer Gold Awards – the Oscars of the supermarket world.

The awards, which took place in The Dorchester Hotel in Park Lane, saw the leading figures from the retailing world gather to celebrate achievement in the industry.

Sir Terry Leahy, Chief Executive of Tesco, who picked up the awards, said: “This is a great recognition of the brilliant job all our staff do for our customers.”

Sir Terry Leahy highlighted the honour of winning ‘Britain’s Favourite Supermarket’, which is based on an ACNielson survey of more than 10,000 shoppers asked about price, range, quality, service and availability.

He added: “All three awards are fantastic honours but we are particularly proud to be named ‘Britain’s Favourite Supermarket’ for the second year running as it is voted for by UK shoppers.”
