EMSL Toronto Testing Laboratory Receives A2LA Accreditation

EMSL Analytical, a leading provider of advanced environmental laboratory services, announced today that their Toronto, Ontario laboratory has been accredited by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) for mold and lead testing.  The news has already spread quickly with indoor air quality and environmental professionals who previously had limited choices for accredited laboratory facilities.
 
Molds live in soil, on plants and on dead or decaying matter.  They produce tiny spores to reproduce, just as some plants produce seeds. These mold spores can be found in both indoor and outdoor air, and settled on indoor and outdoor surfaces. When mold spores land on a damp spot, they may begin growing and digesting whatever they are growing on in order to survive.  Since molds gradually destroy the things they grow on, you can prevent damage to building materials and furnishings and save money by eliminating mold growth.
 
Lead has long been recognized as a harmful environmental pollutant. In late 1991, the Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services called lead the “number one environmental threat to the health of children in the United States.” There are many ways in which humans are exposed to lead: through air, drinking water, food, contaminated soil, deteriorating paint, and dust. Airborne lead enters the body when an individual breathes or swallows lead particles or dust once it has settled. Before it was known how harmful lead could be, it was used in paint, gasoline, water pipes, and many other products.
