PTSD: Dealing and Healing
What is PTSD?
PTSD stands for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It can effect anyone who has been through a very stressful event. Most commonly effected people include war veterans, natural disaster survivors and abuse victims. Symptoms of PTSD include hypervigilance, emotional withdrawal, re-experiencing the event and avoiding reminders of the event.
Dealing With PTSD
PTSD is difficult but not impossible to handle. Having a good support system, seeking professional guidance, avoiding alcohol and drugs, learning to relax and challenging the sense of helplessness are key to healing.
Treating Trauma
While treatment varies for PTSD, most encourage gradually approaching the trauma through recalling sensations and emotions from the event. Sometimes medication is prescribed for secondary symptoms like depression and anxiety. Treatments help work through the feelings the person may experience, coping with and controlling the flashbacks and exploring how PTSD is effecting the person’s life.
Healing Trauma
Healing the trauma can happen in many ways. Some people seek out energy healing which turns negative thoughts into positive ones, allowing the person to continue life as they please. Gradually, whether through energy healing or conventional treatments, the person should be able to experience life without concern of flashbacks that hinder their life.
