Dallas enters as the defending champions, as well as a team with question marks.  Tyson Chandler was the key to the Mavericks being a much better defensive team because of his ability to contest shots. Chandler signed a free agent contract with the New York Knicks, and the team will have to fill that void at the position.

The Lakers have a new coach and new system, but come in to the season without one of the key core players who helped them win back to back titles in a row.  Lamar Odom was traded to the Dallas Mavericks for a first round pick, and trade exception. Kobe Bryant says his knee is 90 percent healed, so it will be interesting to see if number 24 regains some of the explosiveness that made him a MVP caliber player.
