Cariboo Chilcotin Beetle Action Coalition (CCBAC) has approved $30,000 of funding for the Big Creek Watershed Storage Assessment project.

The Big Creek Watershed Storage Assessment project will determine the feasibility of increasing storage of water for availability throughout the year to benefit agricultural operations, wildlife, waterfowl and fish.

This project will focus on the water flow within the Big Creek tributaries (Bambrick, Twinflower, Mons, Copper, Tete Angela and Ray Creeks).

“The Cariboo Chilcotin Beetle Action Coalition is providing $30,000 funding for the Big Creek Watershed Storage Assessment project as we recognize the importance of access to water resources throughout the year for sustaining agricultural operations and wildlife in our communities,” said Kerry Cook, Mayor, City of Williams Lake and Director, Cariboo Chilcotin Beetle Action Coalition.

“Funding projects like the Big Creek Watershed Storage Assessment are very important for continuing to sustain healthy watersheds necessary to support agriculture and wildlife, including historically abundant fisheries, in the Cariboo Chilcotin area. These projects are also very important to help mitigate the effects of the mountain pine beetle in our forest dependent communities" added Marg Evans, Director, Cariboo Chilcotin Beetle Action Coalition. “We look forward to this assessment and how a solution can be implemented and used as a model for other parts of the region and related areas of British Columbia.”

In addition to the funding from CCBAC, the Big Creek Watershed Storage Assessment project is supported by: Ducks Unlimited Canada; Cariboo Region of the Ministry of Forests, Land and Natural Resource Operations; Yunesitin Government Office, Williams Lake TSA Association, and Big Creek Livestock Association.
