HOUSTON – Today, BMC Software (NASDAQ: BMC) announced a self-service mobile app and business intelligence enhancements for its powerful workload automation solution, Control-M.

In addition, as organizations continue to realize the importance of having one enterprise-wide workload automation solution, BMC is also introducing a new wizard conversion toolset that makes it simple and fast for companies to consolidate on Control-M and achieve improved productivity and efficiency.

BMC’s recent Q2 FY12 earnings announcement recognized the continued strength in workload automation, with the addition of 13 new BMC Control-M customers and the expansion of its existing relationships with 55 new product placements.

Recent new and upgrading Control-M customers include:

Ascena Retail Group, a leading national specialty apparel retailer for women and tween girls including Justice and dressbarn stores;

Foxtel, Australia’s leading subscription television provider;

RI-Solution GmbH, a leading global supplier of precision instruments and the world’s largest manufacturer of weighing instruments for use in laboratory, industrial and food retailing applications; and,

SuperPartners, Australia’s largest superannuation administration firm.

Workload Automation Goes Mobile, Gets Smart with Cognos® Business Intelligence
One of the important findings in the 2011 BMC Workload Automation Survey was that 31 percent of respondents said they use mobile apps to manage their business applications, while 70 percent use mobile devices for their business communications such as email. To address this increasing demand for mobile access, BMC now provides Control-M users with the ability to manage their automated workload activity, in a role-based, self-service view on their iPad tablet device or iPhone. Available for free download in the Apple iTunes store, the Control-M Self Service mobile app enables users to monitor and manage scheduled processing and complex event workloads from anywhere via their mobile device. To date, the mobile app has a constant download of about 100 users per month.

The BMC Control-M Self Service App for the iPad and iPhone is the perfect pairing of mobile technology and simplicity,” said Brad Scott, president and CEO of Cetan Corp, an Elite BMC Software Partner. “It gives our customers a portable and intuitive interface that enables them to access and manage their complex scheduled workloads regardless of whether they are in the data center running between meetings or in the shopping center running between errands.”

Customers are continuing to see the value of the Control-M Self Service mobile app.

“As the largest U.S. options and exchange and creator of listed options, we continue to set the bar for options trading through trading technology,” said John Strege, director, capacity and enterprise software, Chicago Board Options Exchange. “Being current users of Control-M, we are continually looking for ways to increase productivity and efficiencies in an effort to deliver the best service possible to our customers and end-users. BMC Control-M Self-Service is a tool we are reviewing and we see potential benefits related to key users taking control of their applications and workloads without IT intervention. We continue to weigh our options and plan to look at opportunities to further evaluate the self-service solution in the future.”

In addition to providing current Control-M customers with new mobile tools, BMC and IBM have teamed up to integrate the powerful Cognos Business Intelligence tool with the Control-M application. As a result, both business and IT Control-M users have the ability to interact with their workload automation tasks and understand if work will be completed on time to satisfy their business needs. Business leaders and IT organizations need to work together in today’s very fluid business environment, making sure processing priorities are adjusted and set as needed to support the important business needs.

Control-M Customer Growth in the Era of the Cloud/Hybrid Data Center
The Control-M solution’s ability to work across multiple technology platforms like mainframes, distributed systems, virtual machines and the cloud enables companies to access data, process scheduled workloads and keep applications running no matter where they run. Because of this, BMC has seen tremendous growth and continued adoption of its Control-M workload automation product.

With newly-integrated capabilities to support clouds running on the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management solution, Amazon EC2 or on VMware infrastructure, BMC’s Control-M workload automation solution provides businesses the elasticity needed to support the known and unknown spikes in workload processing. This allows businesses to more cost-effectively manage their capacity needs and ensure business service levels are met when processing scheduled work in the cloud, including business transactions and business processes.

“As the most trusted provider of vehicle history information, CARFAX is used by millions of consumers each year, and our ability to process workloads has a direct impact on how and when we deliver our business services,” said Robert Stinnett, senior automation analyst at CARFAX. “Utilizing Control-M’s unique capabilities, we are able to dynamically move workloads to the cloud to free up and reallocate capacity during peak times to help successfully process critical workloads to meet customer and business demands. Receiving information from more than 34,000 data sources, we are constantly processing workloads. BMC Control-M’s cloud capabilities allow us to reduce costs, increase availability and get the scalability we need to meet our service delivery needs.”
