Fujifilm Helps Restore Customers’ Photographs After Tornado In Joplin, Missouri

VALHALLA, N.Y., November 21, 2011 – Earlier this month, FUJIFILM North America Corporation proudly partnered with Walmart at its newly-rebuilt supercenter store in Joplin, Missouri, as it kicked-off a week-long grand opening celebration. This past spring, a Walmart store in Joplin was destroyed by a devastating tornado that swept through the area.
 
During the week-long grand opening celebration events at this Walmart store, Fujifilm offered two important services to help the people of Joplin rebuild and recover the pictures that many had lost in the natural disaster – people had the opportunity to have Fujifilm restore damaged photographs and to have new family portraits taken, free of charge. These services were enthusiastically received as many in the community had their photographs either damaged or lost in the storm.
 
“Fujifilm had a unique opportunity to help the people of Joplin as they rebuild their community and their lives by restoring damaged images and taking new family portraits to replace the ones that were lost in the tornado,” said Manny Almeida, vice president & general manager, Imaging and Electronic Imaging Divisions, FUJIFILM North America Corporation. “While we may never be able to fully replace what was lost to these families, we are hopeful that our efforts will help them to create new memories that capture the joy and strength that make the Joplin community special.”
 
At the brand new Walmart supercenter store, Fujifilm provided a large photography studio and restoration center that had several areas for taking new family portraits, restoring damaged images and showcasing photo books, cards and other photo gift products.
 
Inside the Walmart supercenter, two Fujifilm Frontier DL600 printers printed new family portraits for customers. At the Fujifilm photography studio, lap top computers and scanning stations scanned photos for families, saved them to CDs and sent the images for processing. Families would have their newly-restored photos in plenty of time for the holidays.
 
In total, Fujifilm took nearly 300 new family portraits, and restored personal photos for approximately 250 families.
