Mequon Auto Dealer Constructs New Facility and Creates 42 New Jobs

Sommer’s Automotive has just completed construction of a new 16,000 square foot Subaru dealership and completely remodeled their Buick-GMC facility.
 
The exclusive Subaru signature facility will house an expanded showroom, service center, service reception area, and Subaru sales offices. Sommer’s Automotive is the #1 Subaru dealer in Wisconsin.
 
 “We have experienced a tremendous growth in our Subaru business and felt that, in spite of the challenging economy, the time was right to build a new state-of-the-art dealership. The new facility will allow us to continue serving our customers at the high level they have come to expect,” stated Wally Sommer.
 
Sommer’s has also completed the full renovation of their Buick-GMC dealership. The GMC franchise was awarded to Sommer’s in January 2011 and in a few short months they began the transformation from a single building to two separate dealership facilities. The renovation of the Buick-GMC facility provides contemporary sales, service and customer lounge areas.
 
The growth of the Sommer’s Subaru franchise and the addition of the GMC franchise has also translated into additional jobs at the dealership. “As happy as we are with the success of our brands, the real satisfaction comes in the addition of great people to our company,” stated Don Sommer. Sommer continued, “Not only have we been able to add 42 new people to the staff, but we continue to retain long-term employees like Al Pintor, who has been here for 52 years. We know that great brands are crucial to success, but it’s the people who bring our customers the great service that they enjoy.”

Sommer’s Automotive is a family owned and operated business located on the corner of Mequon Road and 76th Street, in Mequon Wisconsin. John Sommer started the business in 1943. Wally Sr. and Erna Sommer operated the business after John’s passing in 1963. The Sommer’s sons Wally and Don have worked in the business since they were 10 and now run the dealership together. Wally’s son, Grant, has also joined the company, carrying on the family tradition.
Sommer’s Automotive operates the local Buick, GMC and Subaru dealerships and ran the Pontiac dealership until the brand was discontinued by General Motors. Since the Sommer’s dealership moved to its current location in 1978 they have added 13.5 acres in land, a 4,600 square foot car wash and detailing center, the new 16,000 square foot facility and are now employing 104 people.
