Aerodyne GatorGate® Double Dump Valve Proven Success for Canadian Plastic Processor

GatorGate® Double Dump Valve Highly Reliable ― Provides Consistent Airlock Seal

CLEVELAND, Ohio — October 24, 2011 — Aerodyne ;(http://www.dustcollectorhq.com/), a specialist in solving dry material handling problems, has solved a tricky issue for a producer of specialty chemical products in Canada with the installation of Aerodyne’s GatorGate® Double Dump Valve. The dust collection system on a plastics process was collecting a mix of fine plastic powder and fibrous resin.  The fibrous resin material turned out to be a major problem for the existing rotary airlock valve used to empty the dust collector’s hopper.  These strings of plastic, referred to as “floss”, would wrap around the vanes of the rotary valve causing damage to the valve and backing up material into the collection system.  Realizing the rotary airlock valve was not adequate for this application, the chemical products producer contacted Aerodyne.  Upon analyzing the problematic material and process conditions, Aerodyne recommended the installation of a GatorGate Double Dump Valve.

The GatorGate Double Dump Valve discharges material while maintaining a positive airlock seal through a pair of sequentially timed flap gates.  The upper gate opens, allowing chunky, fibrous, or abrasive material to drop onto the closed lower gate.  The upper gate then           re-closes to maintain the airlock seal.  The lower gate then opens to discharge material from the system.  Unlike competing dump valves, the GatorGate from Aerodyne utilizes a unique cam-operated drive mechanism.  As the specially designed cam rotates, it actuates the upper and lower flap gates in sequence for a highly reliable and consistent airlock seal.

Because the Double Dump Valve has internal gates that open and close like trap doors, the chemical processor’s difficult floss material did not wrap and bind the valve as it did with the old rotary airlock valve.  An added bonus to solving this material discharge problem was an overall improvement in the dust collection system’s performance.  Because rotary airlocks require a certain amount of clearance between the valve housing and the internal rotor, they allow more air leakage than other types of valve.  With the new Double Dump Valve in place, the air leakage into the system has been minimized.
