Two Woodbridge, NJ Schools Treated for Bed Bugs

Matthew Jago Elementary School and Avenel Middle School have been treated for bed bug infestations after one insect was found at the middle school.
 
After a bed bug was identified on a student’s backpack, school officials called an exterminator to treat the buildings with chemicals after school hours. Students have since returned to school, although some parents remain wary that they will bring bed bugs home with them.

Sample collection is simple:
 
1.)        Send a bed bug in a zip lock plastic bag if you find one.  Be sure to write the location on the outside of the plastic zip lock bag. (Example: Parents’ Bedroom)
 
2.)        If you do not find a live bug, collect your sample for bed bug DNA by swabbing or rubbing a cotton swab or Q-Tip along the areas outlined above as a collection point for your sample.  Place it in a zip lock plastic bag and write the location on the outside of the plastic zip lock bag.
 
3.)        Samples may also be collected with a dust collector that attaches to the end of any vacuum cleaner. The dust collector is available from EMSL Analytical at a cost of $7.
