Murray, UT, September 29, 2011 – Applied Simulation Technologies, Inc. (AST) announced today that Davis School District, based in Farmington, UT, has added AST’s award-winning teen hazard awareness program to its driver’s education curriculum. All driver’s education students in the 2011-2012 school year will complete the five-lesson Crash Reduction 101 course that is offered under the Street Smarts name. The state of Utah has approved the course to replace one-hour of drive time with an instructor when four hours are completed in the computer lab.

Crash Reduction 101 was developed by AST for teens to teach good driving behaviors that reduce crashes. It addresses important topics such as Hazard Recognition, Judging Safe Distance, and Attention and Distraction. In 2010 the course was given the Parent’s Choice Award in the Online Software category. Street Smarts 101 also offers courses and tools for parents to help their teens become safer drivers.

“This program provides for our students a valuable learning experience about the decision making skills needed by every driver to be not only an effective driver but most importantly a safe driver. The software of the program enables our instructors to use it in the classroom as a teaching tool; to use it in our computer labs with all of their students going online independent of each other and working at their pace to complete the lessons; and finally, the students can go online at their homes and work on the lessons,” said John Robison, Driver’s Education Supervisor at the Davis School District. “The lessons are well done and the training that the students receive is invaluable to their training as young drivers,” Robison said.

AST develops online, simulator-based, and custom driver training solutions for police, emergency response, commercial truck, fleet, and teen drivers. AST combines extensive experience in instructional and simulator systems design with knowledgeable subject matter experts to create training solutions that have been proven to train safer drivers and reduce accidents.
