A modern app for a modern city

As part of today’s announcement, SADA released Urbeo (urbeo.co), a consumer mobile application built on Google App Engine. Urbeo allows anyone to become an “urban hero” by bringing non-emergency issues to the attention of city government officials. Relying on HTML5, URbeo is a cutting-edge, completely cloud-based application compatiable with any mobile platofrm such as iOS (for iPhones, iPads and iPods), Android and Blackberry OS. The app is currently being deployed for the City of La Cañada Flintridge where the forward-thinking City is turning to technology and its citizens to help fix up neighborhood eyesores.

Residents of La Cañada Flintridge can now notify City officials about various community problems such as pot holes, graffiti, traffic signal outages, etc. via urbeo.co. The application, dubbed “LCF App powered by Urbeo,” accepts text and photo entries and automatically tags the submission with an approximate location using location features introduced in HTML 5. Users can then submit service requests or send in suggestions or other comments to the appropriate City department.  Service requests will be entered in Google App Engine where they can be retrieved by a City employee assigned to complete the work.

SADA has been servicing the IT needs of La Cañada Flintridge for just over one year. Its collaboration with the City has evolved to where SADA now serves as the City’s defacto IT department. “SADA Systems has been a tremendous partner for us in our IT modernization process.  Their guidance has helped with not only improving the health of our infrastructure, but also in positioning us for new technology advancements,” says Kevin Chun, Director of Administrative Services. “Also, our collaboration with SADA in developing the LCF App powered by Urbeo will help us to better communicate with our residents and provide a higher level of community service. Thanks to SADA, we expect the LCF App powered by Urbeo to help the City maintain and improve the high quality of life our residents enjoy and have come to expect in La Cañada Flintridge.”

Urbeo will be available for consumer use starting Monday, October 3rd 2011.
