Tablet accessory providers poised to re-think their portfolios amidst fierce tablet competition

In the mobile gadget news this month, there has been no shortage of stories describing the current turmoil running rife within the tablet device market.
Earlier this year we saw Hewlett Packard shut down its venture into the tablet market, selling off surplus stock and more recently, Quanta, the largest manufacturer of notebooks in the world, has had to cut staff at its Taiwanese plant from 3,000 to some 2,000 in the face of declining orders for RIM’s ‘PlayBook’. The first quarter of 2011 saw shipments of 500,000 devices, whereas the second quarter saw just 200,000 units shipped; making their annual targets of 4-5 million units looking highly unlikely.
To add to this, a court ruling in Germany saw sales of the Samsung Tab 10.1 banned indefinitely across the country in a bitter legal dispute between Samsung and Apple. Samsung is now rumoured to be seeking to ban iPhone 5 sales in Korea with a similar motion.
Amidst the fierce legal suits, cruel competition and a fickle consumer market, the companies that provide the accessories for these devices are left to re-think their approach; tactically selecting product lines that they feel will still be with us next year, or indeed developing new product lines to cater for this year’s release of the next generation of tablet computers.
TheSnugg welcomes the news, showing that accessory retailers across the country are rising to the challenge:
“People are still finding their feet, as with Smartphones, people will try a couple of devices… some will just stick with what’s popular. As the market grows and consolidates, we’ll have a range of iPad Cases and Tablet cases to suit the majority of the market” says TheSnugg’s Managing Director, Richard Mercer. provides a variety of quality mobile computing accessories to protect their devices whilst providing additional functionality to best suit their lifestyle.
“We don’t do cheap, we do quality, and we feel that our customers value us as a brand because of this. When you spend hundreds on a gadget, you want to keep it safe and stylish and for that reason, we’ve become a best-seller in five territories” Richard Mercer says.
The continued competition in the tablet computing market hits the online headlines daily, with and dedicating entire categories to device discussion and news. ComScore, the experts in digital measurement, found Android taking second place as the operating system of choice in Europe, beating Apple’s iOS and coming second only to Symbian.
As Android proliferates, the tablet device market opens itself up to a fragmentation of niche tablet developments from the likes of Disgo, who specialise in budget tablet devices. One thing is certain, Apple’s monopolistic grip is lessening which is further exacerbated by the departure of their charismatic figurehead, Steve Jobs.
Despite the cut-throat competition among the devices they cater for, TheSnugg continues to experience increasing revenues; Mr Mercer is looking forward to developing the next generation of cases to add to their most popular lines leading up to the holiday season.
“As the countdown to Christmas begins, we expect to get even busier, as people look for the best accessories to pair with gifts to family, friends and loved ones. We hope to be able to cater for all the latest releases when that time comes” Richard Mercer adds.
