Mitsubishi Electric Appeals European General Court’s Ruling Regarding Case on Gas Insulated Switchgear Sales

WEBWIRE

Tokyo - Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO: 6503) announced today that it filed on September 22 an appeal with the European Court of Justice against a ruling issued on July 12 by the European General Court, concerning the European Commission’s determination of EU competition law infringement and subsequent imposition of fines over the sale of gas insulated switchgear products.

The ruling by the General Court annulled the European Commission’s fine imposed on Mitsubishi Electric based on evidence that the Commission demonstrated unequal treatment of Japanese and European parties involved in the case, but upheld the Commission’s determination that Japanese companies had participated in a cartel.

Upon careful review of the ruling, Mitsubishi Electric filed an appeal concerning certain parts of the ruling that it believes are inconsistent with the facts as recognized by the company.

Mitsubishi Electric will present its argument to the European Court of Justice.
