ROCHESTER, N.Y. – AAA Western and Central New York officially introduced two new travel initiatives to the tourism community this morning during a press conference at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester. The announcement demonstrated AAA’s latest approach to strengthening its role as a partner in inbound tourism and hospitality services throughout the region.

“The addition of motorcoaches strengthens AAA’s focus on inbound tourism and increases our ability to offer exceptional touring experiences in the regions we serve,” said Tom Chestnut, President/CEO of AAA Western and Central New York. “Together with Member Connection, our close-to-home travel magazine, AAA is proud to continue its work as a promotional partner in local and regional tourism.”

According to 2009 statistics from Tourism Economics, tourism in the Finger Lakes is a $2.45 billion industry, supporting over 56,000 jobs. Monroe County alone represents 36 percent of the region’s tourism sales with $887 million in visitor spending.

AAA’s motorcoaches were designed to provide the ultimate in transportation with luxury, a comfortable travel environment and maximum storage. Each coach holds 50 and makes every passenger a VIP with extra legroom, leather seats, automatic footrests, magazine and beverage holders, electrical outlets at every seat, Sirius satellite radio, and Wi-Fi access. In the area of safety, the coaches are equipped with shoulder-lap seat belts, rear-view camera, and an exclusive location-based mobile tracking system that automatically sends text messages to appropriate staff to alert them of any potential situations.

In 2009, the nation’s 35,000 plus motorcoaches completed over 723 million passenger trips traveling over 58 billion passenger miles and over 1.7 billion service miles. Booking information is available through Horizon Club Tours, AAA’s specialty group travel division at www.AAA.com/travel.
