The Center for Grief Care and Education Grief and Loss Programs: Specially Designed Workshops Free to Community

The Center for Grief Care and Education (CGCE) demonstrates San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine’s commitment to the community by offering grief support to families after the death of SDHIPM hospice patients as well as providing support to community members who are grieving a death that occurred without the benefit of SDHIPM’s hospice program.

“We understand that the grief journey can be difficult,” said Noreen Carrington, LMFT, FT, Executive Director of The Center for Grief Care and Education.  “Our year-around grief and loss support services, including Grief Street and our Newly Bereaved Workshop, let community members know they are not alone. We are here to help.”

Grief Street: A Family Bereavement Program is a free ten-week program specially designed to serve the needs of children and their caregivers. By supporting both the family unit and each age group, parents and guardians are able to reflect on their own grief process and help their children grieve.
 
Grief Street is currently in-session and runs from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Hillcrest area. Families with children ages 4 through 18 are encouraged to attend.  Spots are still available – contact a CGCE counselor at griefinfo@sdhospice.org or call 619-278-6480 to schedule your pre-session meeting

Understanding Grief: A Workshop for the Newly Bereaved is specifically designed for adults who have recently been impacted by a death. This workshop is held the first Tuesday of every month, from 6:00-7:30 p.m., in the Board Room at San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine (4311 Third Avenue, San Diego, CA). The next workshop will be Tuesday, October 4, 2011. The public is welcome to attend; no pre-registration required.
