The London Development Agency, in partnership with Newham Council, is inviting a shortlist of seven developers to come up with proposals to develop its Silvertown Quays site in east London’s Royal Docks.

The shortlist includes the A-list of UK property developers and demonstrates the strength of market interest in the 50 acre site.

The shortlisted developers and consortia are:

• St George Central London Limited
• Development Securities Consortium (Development Securities PLC, Kier Limited, Grainger PLC and Places for People Homes Limited)
• Hutchinson Whampoa Properties (Europe) Ltd
• Stanhope PLC
• The British Land Company PLC and Barratt Developments PLC Consortium
• Chelsfield Consortium (Chelsfield Partners LLP, First Base Limited and Imagination Europe Limited)
• DV4 Limited (advised by Delancey Real Estate Asset Management Limited) (Delancey)

They are now asked to come up with outline proposals that match the LDA and Newham’s world class ambitions for the site.

There is also strong interest in the LDA’s Royal Albert Dock site. The LDA will brief potential investors in this 35 acre site at an open day next week. The LDA will then, with the support of London and Partners, promote the Royal Albert Dock site to potential Chinese investors later this month.

London Development Agency Chief Executive Lurene Joseph said:

“The opportunities in the Royal Docks – at Silvertown Quays and the Royal Albert Dock – are attracting attention from some of the biggest developers and investors. We are pleased with the high level of market interest and we look forward to seeing their proposals to turn these sites into world class developments – urban centres with thriving businesses, high quality jobs and first-class communities.”

The Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales said:

“London is moving east and there is huge potential here for investment, growth and greater prosperity. The Royal Docks are where London’s future essential economic growth can truly thrive. There has never been a better time to invest in the new heart of London.”

The selection of the Silvertown Quays shortlist follows their completion of a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire, which was published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) in July. Representatives of the shortlisted developers will meet LDA and Newham staff at Newham Dockside next week and be invited to come up with outline proposals for the site’s redevelopment by 10 October 2011.

The deadline for response to the Royal Albert Dock Pre-Qualification Questionnaire is 7 October 2011. A shortlist of developers will then be invited to submit their outline proposals by December 2011.

The marketing campaign is being managed by Knight Frank on Silvertown Quays and Drivers Jonas Deloitte on the Royal Albert Dock site.
