Compact Scanner Offers End-to-End Options for Capturing, Converting, Communicating and Controlling Business Information

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, today introduced the latest addition to its award-winning imageFORMULA lineup, the Canon DR-M160 document scanner. With a combination of performance, convenience and flexibility, the Canon imageFORMULA DR-M160 scanner is a compact document imaging solution that is ideal for a variety of office environments.

Today, business operating costs are on the rise, making return-on-investment harder to achieve. The Canon DR-M160 scanner provides the basis for effective and efficient records management and paperwork reduction. This scanner was designed with a variety of users’ needs in mind, providing capture capabilities for workgroups and departments in any industry.

“Canon recognizes the need for a fast, reliable, user-friendly scanner that can enhance the efficiency of workflows in businesses,” said Jim Rosetta, vice president and general manager, Imaging Systems Group, Canon U.S.A. “The DR-M160 scanner sets a new standard for imageFORMULA document scanners in price / performance, delivering capture capabilities that make it an ideal office addition, especially in the legal, financial, healthcare, and government sectors.”

The DR-M160 scanner has excellent performance and document capacity. Scanning up to 60 pages-per-minute1 / 120 images per minute 1, and holding up to 60 sheets in the Automatic Document Feeder, it quickly and effectively captures and stores business information, scanning both sides of a document in a single pass. At less than a foot long and wide, the DR-M160 scanner can help enhance the workflow in space-constrained areas. And with an intuitive control panel to pre-program scan tasks, the DR-M160 scanner adopts and simplifies higher-end scanning features into a compact and easy-to-implement package.

Incorporating new rollers designed for one-pass scanning, as well as a document stopper for double-feed prevention, the Canon DR-M160 scanner helps ensure more unattended scanning and seamless throughput. Since batches often contain a variety of document types, the DR-M160 scanner is ideal for handling an assortment of hard-copies, from long documents to embossed plastic cards, as well as thin paper using the new Thin Paper Mode. In addition to flexible and reliable feeding, the DR-M160 scanner includes improved gradation levels and capabilities such as Background Smoothing and Shadow Cropping, for high quality scanning that demonstrates Canon’s imaging expertise.

The DR-M160 scanner bridges the divide between hardware and software by offering an inclusive suite of Canon software as well as third-party applications. For sharing information via the cloud,2 Canon’s CaptureOnTouch and CapturePerfect enables users to route scanned images directly to applications such as Microsoft SharePoint and Evernote. Along with Kofax VRS and Nuance eCopy PDF Pro Office, the bundled software widens the scope of capture and output capabilities, increasing the overall quality of documents scanned and how information is organized. The DR-M160 scanner is also bundled with Windows ISIS/TWAIN drivers for easy integration with third-party Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems.

The new imageFORMULA DR-M160 document scanner is available immediately through all authorized Canon resellers for a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $1,295. 3And for investment protection, eCarePAK options are available from Canon. eCarePAK extends service beyond the initial one-year limited warranty period, saving on costs associated with post-purchase maintenance, and maximizing uptime throughout the product life.
