BHP Billiton Donates US$500,000 to the United Nations World Food Programme
BHP Billiton is pleased to announce that it has donated US$500,000 to assist famine affected people in the Horn of Africa.
A charity established by BHP Billiton as part of its community investment program, BHP Billiton Sustainable Communities, made the donation to the United Nations World Food Programme’s School Meals Programme to provide food and nutritional assistance to people affected by drought in the region.
The Company has substantial assets across Africa, in its Manganese, Energy Coal, and Aluminium businesses, as well as an exploration presence.
BHP Billiton Chief Executive Non-Ferrous, Andrew Mackenzie, said: “BHP Billiton has an overriding commitment to sustainable development everywhere we operate and Africa is an important region for our business and our people. We are pleased our donation will assist these communities.”
