The IOC Executive Board (EB) today met with the Council of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) for their traditional biannual meeting on the eve of the World Athletics Championships, to be held this year from 27 August to 4 September in Daegu, South Korea.

The two organisations praised the state of preparations for next year’s Olympic Games in London, with the staging of test events progressing well. The IAAF said it had been pleased with its first test events (marathon and race walk) in late May and was looking forward to tests at the new Olympic Stadium in May 2012, with the British University & Colleges Sport Championship. The IOC and IAAF complimented London’s commitment to ensureing the best possible conditions for competitive sport next year.

In a separate meeting, the IOC EB also agreed to lift, with immediate effect, the suspension of the NOC of Ghana, which was imposed in January to protect the interest of sport within the country after it was deemed the government had intervened in the running of the NOC. The Ghanaian Parliament recently adopted new sports legislation is compatible with the Olympic Charter. The next step for the NOC will be to convene its elective General Assembly as soon as possible.
