NCR wins Poste Italiane Deal with Innovative NCR Personas M Series ATMs

1000 new Postamat ATM kiosks will be deployed for the payment of postal giro slips

Barcelona — NCR and Poste Italiane, the national Italian Post Office, have struck a multimillion euro deal for the deployment of 1,000 NCR Personas M Series automated teller machines (ATMs). In addition to cash dispense, the new units incorporate a groundbreaking new solution for the payment of bills and taxes through postal giro slips.

The customer inserts the giro payment slip into a special image reader integrated within the ATM, named Postamat by Poste Italiane. Once quickly decoded by the system, customers simply use their ATM or bank debit card to complete the transaction.

The implementation means that Poste Italiane customers will no longer need to stand in long lines at the post office counter as they can go straight to the new Postamat self-service kiosk. In addition, the reduced stream of counter customers will free staff time, enabling them to further improve the service and assistance given to customers who need to make more complex transactions.

Thanks, in part, to the Personas M Series’ innovative, compact design for easier installation, these new ATMs will be deployed across the whole of Italy by autumn 2006.

Access for those with disabilities will be enhanced due to the removal of architectural barriers at installation sites. The new solution will also have audio kits to guide the visually-impaired.
