August 29, 2011 – Peoria, AZ – The Tiny Soldier, creators of military and service-themed clothing for children, and nationwide custom embroiderers, introduced four new children’s embroidered clothing designs to honor our nation’s returning soldiers. The designs include signature stick-figure characters exclusive to The Tiny Soldier.

“Military moms often plan something special for the return of their soldiers, and that includes dressing the children in patriotic designs to show support,” said the company’s owner, Janell Mitchell. “There were no kid-friendly ’Welcome Home’ shirts out there — and certainly not ones that can be personalized like these. It’s our way of showing support for our troops.”

Mitchell said customers on The Tiny Soldier website can choose one of four designs and match it up with a children’s item of clothing online. The four new designs include the customer’s choice of a female figure or a male figure—one each with a camouflage outfit and one each with a yellow star on a plain outfit. All of the “Welcome Home” stick-figure children are carrying a small American flag. Before checking out, the purchaser has an opportunity to add personalized elements to the design, including embroidered words and names, or different-colored hair to match the color of the child’s hair. Most clothing items cost $12.00, plus shipping and handling.

According to Mitchell, a number of military moms asked her for the designs. However, the idea for welcome home clothing items didn’t gel until she met Julie Chavez, a military mom from Hawaii. Chavez introduced herself to Mitchell at a recent expo for women. She expressed her gratitude that The Tiny Soldier was creating patriotic items for children—and her amazement that Mitchell has dedicated her work to soldiers without having any ties to the military. The two women ended up in emotional tears. Chavez and Mitchell talked about how wonderful it would be to have access to clothing items that said “Welcome Home” when Chavez’s deployed husband returned soon, and that is how the idea was born.
