On August 4, the GTAA was pleased to announce the winner of its Juried Exhibition Purchase Award.

Two photographs by Hamilton’s John Haney were selected out of the 23 works of art featured in this year’s Weather: A Juried Art Exhibition.

In describing his creations, Haney said “These photographs were made over the course of two years, all from the same point of land, high above the north Atlantic Ocean, looking east from the easternmost point of North America … the series explores the inherent contrasts and contradictions we feel when we are confronted by nature, by space, by ourselves.”

The GTAA holds a juried exhibition every two years, open to artists in the 416 and 905 area codes.

“The juried exhibition showcases the cultural vitality and artistic talent in the area to thousands of guests,” Curator Lee Petrie said. “John Haney’s photographs are subtle and serene, and transport the viewer to a place in the clouds. We’re delighted to add these works to our corporate collection.”

The chromogenic colour prints, Island 12 and Island 16, will be on display in Terminal 1, Airspace (Level 2, pre-security) until the end of October.
