DirectRooms can confirm that the World Health Organisation (WHO), Health Action in Crisis (HAC) is to hold a two-week conference in Hammamet, Tunisia between 26th September and 7th October 2011.

The Public Health Pre Deployment Course (PHPD) will give public healthcare professionals and humanitarian aid workers the confidence and skills essential for use in any emergency. The course is residential for the two-week period and takes place at the Diar Lemdina Facility in Hammamet, Tunisia.

Participants in the course will receive assessments and accreditations, and those who complete the course successfully will be enrolled onto the WHO Emergency Health Roster. The WHO is looking for applicants from a strong background in emergency health management, or representatives with experience in public health and programme management and logistics.

With an increasing number of worldwide disasters needing trained healthcare professionals, the WHO is using these conferences as a way of widening the pool of healthcare managers and professionals who will be able to respond to these crises. Representatives from WHO and HAC, non-governmental agencies, and representatives from academic and technical institutions will conduct the course.

For those WHO staff wishing to attend the conference, the organisation will cover the conference costs, but the staff themselves will cover additional expenses. For non-WHO staff the fee is $2,500.
