MAN plant in Brazil hits half a million vehicles mark

MAN Latin America produced vehicle No. 500,000 in its Resende plant that has been in operation for almost 15 years. The plant located in the south of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil builds the truck lines Constellation (13-31 Tonnen), Worker (8-31 Tonnen) and Delivery (5-9 Tonnen) as well as the bus line Volksbus. In addition, July 2011, was the best July in the company’s history with over 5,200 vehicles sold. In the first half of 2011, MAN extended its market leadership – a position it has held in the truck market for eight years –, increasing its market share by 2.5 percentage points to 30.6 percent.

140 thousand vehicles had been produced in the former plants since 1981. Ready on November 1st, 1996, the plant in Resende began operating with about one thousand people working in one shift. Resende currently works in three shifts and with almost 7,000 employees.



The modular production system Consortio Modular is a cooperation of MAN Latin America and seven partner companies. With the partner’s presence throughout the entire assembly of its trucks and buses, MAN Latin America is responsible for product development, final quality certification, and marketing through 145 dealers in Brazil and importers in more than 30 countries in Latin America and Africa.



In the second quarter of 2011 MAN Latin America recorded the best-ever quarterly and hence half-yearly results in the company’s history. Revenue in the first half year totaled €1.8 billion (up 19 percent year-on-year), 36,473 vehicles were sold (+11 percent). Operating profit for the first six months amounted to €201 million (€166 million) and the return on sales reached 11.1 percent.
