Hyde Leadership Charter School Hires Peter T. Anderson as Elementary School Director

(Hunts Point, South Bronx, NY) Effective immediately, Peter Timothy Anderson joins the Hyde Leadership Charter School (Hyde-Bronx), a K-12 college preparatory school in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx, as Elementary School Director.

Mr. Anderson will oversee 300 students in grades K-3 and will report to Betsy Olney, Head of School. He brings with him extensive experience as a senior school administrator with a keen understanding of the challenges facing urban communities.

Mr. Anderson started his educational career teaching sixth-grade mathematics and history at the Dwight-Englewood School in Englewood, New Jersey, and subsequently became a teacher and then the principal at the Tranquility Elementary School in Tranquility, NJ. Mr. Anderson’s career next took him to the urban St. Philips Academy in Newark, NJ. where he was hired as Associate Head of School. Most recently, he served as the principal of the Future Leaders Institute Charter School, a K-8 school in Harlem.

Mr. Anderson received his B.A. in Sociology from Haverford College, his M.Sc in Sociology at the London School of Economics and his M.A. in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from New York University.

In addition to presenting at various conferences such as the New York Coalition for Healthy School Food Conference ( “Forging School Community Partnerships to Enhance Student Wellness”), the ICFF Metropolis Conference (“Design Entrepreneurs: Rethinking Energy”), the NAIS People of Color Conference (“Preparing Students of Color for Predominantly White Secondary Schools? ), Mr. Anderson is also a member of the National Association for Elementary School Principals, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the International Reading Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Association for the Teaching of Mathematics, the National Association for the Teaching of English, the National Science Teachers Association, and Phi Delta Kappa.

The Hyde Leadership Charter School (Hyde-Bronx) is a New York City public school, chartered by the New York State Education Department. The school opened its doors in September, 2006 and is located in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx – the poorest Congressional district in the U. S.
