DogTipper Named Finalist in DogTime Petties Awards

WEBWIRE

DogTipper.com has been named a finalist in the annual Petties competition in the category of Best Social Integration Blog. The Petties or the DogTime Pet Blogger Awards are considered “the Oscars of the pet blogging world”.

The Best Social Integration Blog category is new to the Petties this year, recognizing “a pet blog that effectively leverages the power of social media to maximize its readership via Facebook, Twitter, Digg, etc.” Other categories spotlight Best Pet Blog, Best Dog Blog, Best Cat Blog, Best Cause Related Blog, Best Blog Post, Best Designed Blog, and Funniest Blog or Blogger. The Petties awards are sponsored by DogTime.com.

“We’re very honored to be in the finals for this year’s Petties,” says Paris Permenter, co-founder of the 4,000+ page website along with her husband, John Bigley. “We’ve been working hard to use our influence on Twitter and Facebook to help promote not only ways readers can enjoy a better life with their dogs but also the many adoptable dogs that are looking for homes. From Monday through Friday, we feature an Adoptable Dog of the Day and work to promote them through social media.”

DogTipper also has a continuing effort to help members of the pet community, from shelters and rescues to fellow pet bloggers. “We enjoy sharing what we’ve learned about social media with other bloggers, rescues, and shelters,” says Bigley. “Right now, we’re participating in a pro bono project to help Have a Heart, Inc. in South Florida set up a website and improve their social media profile; we’ll be working with them to help make that rescue more visible which we hope will allow them to adopt out more dogs. We’re blogging about our efforts, and we welcome reader questions (especially from rescues and shelters) on improving your social media skills.”

Category winners of the 2011 Petties awards receive a $1,000 donation for the shelter or rescue of their choice. DogTipper has named House with a Heart Senior Pet Sanctuary as their recipient if DogTipper wins the Best Social Integration Blog category. This sanctuary, chosen by DogTipper readers, takes in homeless senior dogs to let them live their golden years in a home setting.

Voting for the Petties continues through July 29, 2011. The awards will be presented in a gala awards ceremony in the ballroom of the Sheraton Premiere on Friday, August 26, 2011, in Tysons Corner, VA (just outside Washington DC) during the BlogPaws 2011 conference.
