Los Alamos Medical Center Open for Business after Wildfires

WEBWIRE

The Las Conchas fire in New Mexico has charred thousands of acres and caused the closing the Los Alamos National Laboratory. In addition to closing the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the fire forced the evacuation of thousands or people and caused the closure of the region’s hospital, the Los Alamos Medical Center (LAMC).

Due to the valiant efforts of wildfire crews and a shift in wind direction, the town and the laboratory are now getting ready to resume operations. Before the Los Alamos National Laboratory could safely reopen it was first essential to reopen the Los Alamos Medical Center in case of any emergencies.

“Before the hospital could reopen their doors, it was vital to minimize the indoor environmental impacts from the considerable smoke produced by the massive wildfire,” reported Derrick A. Denis, V.P. Indoor Environmental Quality at Clark Seif Clark (CSC). “CSC was retained to provide smoke contamination consulting and environmental inspection services during the emergency decontamination efforts at the medical facility. CSC confirmed that the medical facility was acceptable to reopen over the July 4th holiday weekend. The rapid cleaning and reopening of LAMC is a major step for both the city and Los Alamos National Laboratory towards returning to normalcy. CSC a proud contributor to the team of local and regional emergency responders who’s herculean efforts allowed for the rapid reopening of this important facility” he continued.

Clark Seif Clark can help determine whether or not a home or workplace has been impacted by structural fires and wildfires. CSC has been performing environmental consulting and testing related to fires for many years, including the 2002 Arizona Rodeo-Chedeski Fire, the 2007 San Diego area Witch Creek & Harris Fires and the August 2009 Los Angeles area Station Fire.
