ExpressCluster X R3 increases network flexibility and decreases down time for critical systems running standard applications, OS and virtualization platforms

Irving, Texas - - NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a leading provider and integrator of advanced communication and IT solutions, today announced the release of its next generation high availability and disaster recovery software solution, the NEC ExpressCluster X R3. The ExpressCluster software minimizes down time during planned and unplanned system outages and increases application and data availability supporting a wide range of deployment environments including virtualized and non-virtualized systems in traditional enterprise data centers and emerging cloud infrastructure.

“Today, many business critical applications are becoming virtualized and business continuity solutions now need to quickly recover virtualized and non-virtualized applications and data,” said Mike Mitsch, Director, IT Platform Group, NEC Corporation of America. “The new ExpressCluster release adds many new features, including up to 10 times faster in initial data protection setup and integration with virtualization hypervisor to enable more flexible and higher performance recovery solutions in traditional data centers and new cloud environments.” The ExpressCluster software provides intuitive failure monitoring features, failover safeguards that quickly migrates application workloads to a standby server when a failure occurs and operation management features to identify the source of a system failure. Its integrated high-availability and disaster recovery software offers functionality and reliability that ensures critical system continuity with fast recovery of applications and data to minimize business disruptions.

“NEC has leveraged more than a decade of experience in the Availability and Clustering Software (ACS) market to deliver advanced functionality that improves availability for virtualized x86 server environments,” said Jean S. Bozman, Research VP, IDC’s Enterprise Platforms group. “This is increasingly important due to the influx of business-critical and mission-critical workloads into x86 server infrastructure. NEC’s support of data replication and clustering over WAN (wide-area network) links brings near-real-time availability and data replication to customers of virtualized x86 servers.”

NEC’s ExpressCluster improves performance over previous releases in several categories. It allows for a faster initial synchronization and full resynchronization process in data mirroring, enhances compression support for low bandwidth WAN networks and built-in support for multiple networks. Usability has been improved through enhanced configuration wizard settings, such as the elimination of manual entry of error prone parameters. The ExpressCluster software has also provided support for multiple independent dynamic DNS servers and helps virtualized systems to achieve seamless recovery from host level component failures through built-in integration with leading virtualization platforms.

ExpressCluster X R3 is now available and the various editions of ExpressCluster include: WAN Edition, LAN Edition, and SAN Edition. ExpressCluster enables continuity solutions for several platforms and applications, including but not limited to:

*Database Server: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle DB, IBM DB2, MySQL, PostgreSQL
*Virtualization Platform: VMware vSphere/ESX, Microsoft Hyper-V
*Operating System: Windows, Linux (Novell and Red Hat)
