Upcoming ACRL e-Learning on winning library grants, classroom assessment and digital learning materials

CHICAGO – The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) is offering a wide variety of online learning opportunities in summer 2011 to meet the demands of your schedule and budget. Registration for all online seminars and webcasts qualifies for the ACRL Frequent Learner Program. Register for three ACRL e-Learning events and receive one free registration. ACRL online seminars are asynchronous, multi-week courses delivered through Moodle. Online seminars scheduled for summer 2011 include:

Instructional Design for Online Teaching and Learning (July 11-29, 2011): Focus on using good instructional design and Web page design principles. Participants will also be introduced to Web-based Teaching techniques and materials using standard Web pages and the Moodle LMS.

Winning Library Grants (Aug. 15 - Sept. 2, 2011): This course will introduce participants to the grant process from beginning to end, with an emphasis on planning successful grant projects, funding sources for libraries, researching grant opportunities, proposal writing basics and grant-winning tips and techniques useful for all types of librarians.

ACRL also offers a variety of timely live webcasts addressing hot topics in academic librarianship. Webcasts last from an hour and a half to two hours and take place in an interactive online classroom. Group discounts are available for all ACRL e-Learning Webcasts. Summer 2011 Webcasts include:

The Library’s Role in Ensuring the Success of International Efforts on Campus (July 12, 2011): Learn about the complexities and additional requirements for conducting orientation, outreach and information literacy instruction to international students studying in the U.S. Discover innovative ways to stimulate international student engagement with the academic library.

Classroom Assessment For Information Literacy Instruction: Are they Learning What You Are Teaching? (July 19, 2011): This webcast will compare a typical teaching evaluation with an easy-to-implement classroom assessment technique, known as the “minute paper,” with a focus on what each tool reveals about what students are learning.

Re-engineering Academic Libraries for Digital Natives and Beyond: Digital Learning Materials and the ’Teaching Machine’ of the Future (Aug. 9, 2011): This webcast will focus on the capability of digital learning materials (DLMs – i.e. interactive tutorials, simulations and games) to engage learners and be essential resources for enhancing student learning across all disciplines, both in the classroom and online.
