Bikers and Hikers Can Enjoy Wisconsin’s Premier Trails in Delafield

DELAFIELD, Wis.— Delafield, Wisconsin is intersected by the finest hiking and biking trails in the state of Wisconsin, which fan off in almost every direction, making Delafield an excellent destination for a weekend outdoors.

Halfway between Milwaukee and Madison and set amid dozens of lakes in southeastern Wisconsin’s aptly named “Lake Country” area, Delafield is close to many regional events and attractions, but far enough away to host miles of trails that allow runners, bikers, walkers, inline skaters and even horseback riders to experience the serenity of woodlands, prairies, and lake views. Lapham Peak in Kettle Moraine State Forest
Lapham Peak is home to five different looped trails, plus a portion of Wisconsin’s 1,200-mile Ice Age Trail, one of just ten national scenic trails in the US. Through woods and prairies, friendly paved sections and more arduous routes, these trails are filled with wildlife and nature, and just five minutes from downtown Delafield. Along with picnic areas and shelters that can be rented for family reunions or other gatherings, Lapham Peak is anchored by a soaring 45-foot observation tower, so guests can take in breathtaking views of most of Waukesha County.

Glacial Drumlin State Trail
A 52-mile trek through glacial landscapes and small towns, the Glacial Drumlin Trail is a popular hiking/biking trail that stretches from Waukesha to Cottage Grove. A lengthy paved section in the eastern part of the trail accommodates inline skaters and bikers as well as runners and walkers. Its level terrain is attractive to families as well as serious athletes.

Ice Age National Scenic Trail
A lesser-known sister to the Appalachian Trail, the Ice Age Trail spans nearly 1,200 miles through the heartland of Wisconsin, tracing terrain that was deposited by the glacier’s edge.

Lake Country Recreational Trail
An 8-mile paved recreation trail located on the former Milwaukee - Watertown Interurban Railway, this is the newest trail in Delafield. It cuts through forest, prairie, and marsh wildlife and landscapes and meets up with the Glacial Drumlin Trail.
