BASF at HPCI Congress 2011: modern solutions for Personal Care, Home Care and I&I

WEBWIRE

At this year’s HPCI congress, to be held on June 1-2 in Istanbul, Turkey, BASF and Cognis – now part of BASF – will present their combined technical expertise and product portfolio for the Personal Care, Home Care as well as Industrial and Institutional Cleaning (I&I) markets. At booth 400, they will exhibit innovative concepts, products and formulations that can help customers to meet challenging consumer demands and to set new trends. “Middle East and especially Turkey are strong growing and important markets for us”, so Stefan Beckmann, Senior Vice President of Home Care and Formulation Technologies Europe, “Therefore I am very glad that BASF presents the combined portfolio here in Istanbul.”

Mild skin care solutions
From lotions and sprays to creams, mousses and gels, consumers expect personal care products to deliver high performance while being very mild to the skin. For instance the “Sensitive Skin” concept meets the needs of consumers with sensitive skin. It draws on extensive formulation expertise and an in-depth knowledge of the market to offer customers solutions for various high-performance skin care and cleansing applications. All of these formulations have been tested and proven as suitable for use on sensitive skin. It also includes Cetiol RLF, a light and environmentally sound emollient that has been dermatologically tested on very sensitive skin. It is also made from 100 percent natural renewable feedstocks, and is catalyzed with enzymes.

Enjoying the sun with advanced UV protection

Modern sun and skin care products need to comply with different UV protection standards. At the same time they have to combine advanced UV protection with pleasing sensory on the skin. With the Cognis-integration besides being the leading supplier of UV filters, BASF now has the right technologies, formulation expertise as well as the best in-class product portfolio to provide its customers with tailored solutions for different consumer needs. At HPCI, BASF will showcase some of these solutions, which include the classic UVB filters Uvinul T150 , Uvinul MC80 and Uvinul N539T , the only photostable UVA filter in the market UvinulA Plus Granular , and the highly efficient and photostable broad-spectrum UV filters Tinosorb M and Tinosorb S as well as the high performance emulsifier Eumulgin Prisma and the sensory enhancing emollients Cetiol Sensoft and Cetiol CC . Tinosorb S is also available as Tinosorb S Aqua , which can be incorporated into the water phase of an emulsion to facilitate a more even distribution of the UV filters on the skin.

High-performance products for Home Care and I&I applications

One of the major trends in the Home Care and I&I market is the growing demand for convenient and effective, yet efficient and sustainable solutions. Super concentrated liquid laundry detergents, for example, effectively remove stains at smaller dosages, thereby enabling manufacturers to offer consumers the convenience of compact formats. The resulting reduction in weight, packaging and transportation costs is advantageous both commercially and environmentally. However, compact formats require a higher concentration of washing active substances, and so it can be a challenge to keep the formulation stable while retaining the flexibility to use different ingredients. BASF will be presenting two key ingredients that enable customers to formulate super-concentrated liquid detergents that meet these demands: Lutensol M 7, a non-ionic surfactant, and the rheology modifier Rheovis AT 120.

Also on show will be Sokalan CP 5, a phosphate replacement for heavy-duty liquid detergents, and Tinolux BMC, a photocatalytic system that delivers excellent cleaning and bleaching performance. Even at low wash temperatures and in low concentrations, Tinolux BMC achieves excellent photo-bleaching and efficient photoshading. Superior tinting effects are obtained without causing over hue after repeated wash cycles.

Besides laundry detergents, BASF will also feature mild and effective ingredients for manual dish-washing:

The APG surfactants of the Glucopon® product line are multi-tasking surfactants that offer good cleaning performance, mildness to skin, environmental compatibility and effective soil emulsification.

The Dehyton K is a betaine for use as a co-surfactant in mild manual dish-washing applications, with excellent foam-boosting properties.

Trilon M, a strong and readily biodegradable chelate can be used as an alternative to n itrilotriacetic acid (NTA) in I&I applications .

Sharing insider views

At the HPCI congress exhibiting companies will also introduce new ingredients and formulations at a technical seminar. BASF experts will take part in this, and share their insights into the latest market trends and product developments.
