Writing An Effective Resume Cover Letter Can Dramatically Improve Job Seeker’s Chances Of Getting Hired

Whether a job seeker is going after a job that requires little skill, or a position that requires higher levels of education and years of experience, writing an effective resume cover letter is an essential component when making application for today’s jobs.

In today’s economy, job seekers absolutely need an advantage over other candidates when applying for job positions because there are simply more and more people applying for those same jobs.

According to the United States Bureau Labor of Statistics as of May 25, 2011, unemployment is 8.7%. Although this figure is slightly lower than last year, it’s still considerably higher than previous decades. As companies struggle to decrease expenditures, they target employees through mass layoffs as one of the most effective ways to improve their bottom line.

The good news, however, is that companies are always looking for people to fill new positions and to run their day to day business operations. So why do they need new employers when they’re laying off so many?

As new technologies, ideas, and products are being developed, companies do need new employees to fill new positions that are opening up. However, to apply for any of these positions without a resume cover letter is like walking into the employer’s office and immediately talking about one’s qualifications without a proper greeting, handshake, or warm smile.

Also, a resume cover letter is very similar to a product sales letter. The product is the job seeker and the buyer is the hiring employer. Like a sales letter, a cover letter appeals to the employer’s needs and emotions and provides a compelling reason why the employer needs that candidate for their company; or at the very least, entices the employer to want to see the candidate in person.
