Delta expands international leadership position as only U.S. carrier to serve Budapest, Nice

ATLANTA, May 8, 2006 – Delta Air Lines this week continues its quest to offer customers service to more worldwide destinations than any other U.S. airline with the addition of two more trans-Atlantic routes from the United States. Tonight, Delta will operate its first flight from its New York-JFK hub to Budapest, Hungary, providing customers with a convenient link between the capital of Hungary and the world’s financial capital. Tomorrow night, Delta will operate the first non-stop flight from its Atlanta hub to the French vacation hotspot of Nice, complementing existing non-stop service available year-round from New York.

"We are excited to build on the momentum of the largest international expansion in Delta’s history by becoming the only U.S. carrier to provide a nonstop link between Budapest and New York while at the same time expanding our unique position as the only U.S. carrier to serve Nice,” said Glen Hauenstein, Delta’s executive vice president – Network and Revenue Management. “These new flights offer added convenience for our business and leisure customers by making it easier to connect to the heart of Central Europe or to France’s Mediterranean coast without changing airlines or making multiple stops.”

While the new non-stop service between New York and Budapest initially will operate five-times weekly, Delta will expand the route in response to customer demand and offer daily round-trip service between Aug. 3 and Sept. 30.

“Delta is proud to be the emerging U.S. carrier in Eastern Europe and to further respond to customer demand for flights in this growing region,” Hauenstein said. “Customers are clearly enthusiastic about flying Delta to and from Eastern Europe as evidenced by the positive response we’ve seen to our new service to Budapest.”

On both of Delta’s new routes, customers will enjoy the comfort of the wide body Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with the capacity to carry up to 204 passengers in a two-class configuration, featuring Delta’s award-winning BusinessElite™service.

This week’s inaugural flights to Budapest and Nice are the fourth and fifth in a series of 11 new trans-Atlantic routes to be launched by Delta by June. In April, Delta inaugurated its first service between Atlanta and Düsseldorf, in March its first service between Atlanta and Tel Aviv, Israel, and last week the first non-stop service between Atlanta and Copenhagen, Denmark. The next trans-Atlantic inaugurals are set for May 15 from New York-JFK to Dublin/Shannon, Ireland and Manchester, England. In total, Delta will offer non-stop service to more than 60 international destinations from Atlanta this summer, including 23 routes across the Atlantic. From New York-JFK, Delta will offer customers non-stop service to more than 28 international destinations with 18 routes across the Atlantic.
