Gahanna space to bring largest private employer to 18,000 workers

COLUMBUS, - Chase announced today that it will add between 500 and 1,000 mortgage-servicing jobs to its Central Ohio workforce when it moves into new office space in Gahanna later this year.

Chase already is the region’s largest private employer with 17,000 Columbus area workers serving the company’s customers across the country.

“Chase continues to invest in Central Ohio and create good jobs because we have had excellent success with workers here,” said James Malz, the president of Chase in Ohio. “We’ve had tremendous community support as we have expanded our workforce during the past few years.”

The additional workers will help homeowners around the country who are struggling with their monthly mortgage payments. The new employees will augment Chase’s staff at a 495,000-square-foot facility in Easton that Chase uses for mortgage servicing.

“This is part of our extensive efforts to help customers who are facing financial difficulties,” said Frank Bisignano, CEO of Chase Home Lending and Chief Administrative Officer of parent company JPMorgan Chase. “We know Central Ohio is a great place to hire people who work hard and are dedicated to helping customers.”

Chase expects to invest several million dollars to reconfigure and furnish the 123,000 square feet of leased office space at 800-825 Tech Center Dr. in Gahanna.

In mid-2009, Chase announced an initiative to add 1,150 jobs in Central Ohio in Columbus and Westerville, and it has more than exceeded that goal.

Leaders from Ohio Gov. Kasich’s office, the Ohio Department of Development and the city of Gahanna have worked closely with Chase to provide incentives to attract the new jobs to Central Ohio.

“JPMorgan Chase is one of Ohio’s largest private employers and continues to grow even under challenging economic times, which is evident by the 500 to 1,000 new jobs the company is adding in Gahanna,” said Jim Leftwich, Director of the Ohio Department of Development. “We applaud Chase’s decision to expand its operations in Ohio and look forward to continuing our established long-term partnership.”

“We are thrilled to welcome JPMorgan Chase with more than 500 new jobs to Gahanna,” said Mayor Becky Stinchcomb. “We are proud that this expansion will lead to so many new jobs for our city and that Chase will quickly become one of Gahanna’s largest employers. This project demonstrates how our continued commitment to infrastructure investment makes Gahanna an attractive location for businesses and job growth despite the challenges facing our nation’s economy.”

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon met recently to discuss the firm’s Ohio operations.

“I am extremely pleased JPMorgan Chase is expanding its Ohio operations, creating good-paying jobs in the Columbus area,” said Portman. “The decision is a testament to the area’s highly skilled workforce and one that will bring tremendous economic opportunity to Central Ohio.”
